Christmas decor add ons!

I posted yesterday on some of my decor I put up and as always as soon as I posted it I came
across another box of decor!
So here are the additions I put up tonight!
I know I should wait because I'm going shopping for decor tomorrow with my mother!
But oh well, here goes!
I added my table runner to my side board catch all.
There was no way that it was going to remotely fit on my table and it is a tad short for the dresser but I doubt anyone will comment.

I also added a strand of mini lights, all 36" of it.
I am planning on having some sort of reindeer coming from the mail organizer, but I'll have to work on that this weekend!
I did change out the candles for my xmas-y scented ones, in hopes I will burn them.

I added a candle holder with a vintage 70s candle from my mothers attic and also added some sparkly branches. half of them were chewed up on the floor thanks to the kitten!

I thought I would include a better view of the snow man and decor around my mirror.

I simply added some bulbs to the candle holder in the built in, I don't really care for it so I don't decorate it as much as I could.

My hubby came up with the idea to place the christmas tree on the coffee table!
What an insanely genius idea! I can cover the stuff underneath or I can remove it and put all the presents there! I mean come on, talk about "why didn't I think of that"?
I plan on getting some fabric to drape over the lower parts, no one needs to see my polish and papers.
ok let me be honest with you, no one comes to my house.
My sister has two kids and an amazing house, there is no need to visit here.

I simply added some lights to my bookcase. I stil have no clue what to do with it yet but I'm working on it.

Here is your dramatic lighted display!

This is the nativity spinner I mentioned in my post yesterday so you guys know what I was talking about! when the candles are lit the whole middle spins, it is the most darling decoration I have!
I just need to find candles for it!

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

It's the most wonderful time if blogger will allow you to post photos to your blog.
I just want to vent for one second.
I hate picasa or whatever the heck program they are using now.
I tried posting this very blog post four separate times.
It said my picasa web album was full. Okay fine how do I change that? google was no help.
I stumbled my way through deleting all my albums so I should have room now.
Let's see if it will actually work!
Drumroll please!

Oh thank goodness!
So here goes!
I did wait until after thanks giving to decorate the house, I'm so proud of myself, temptation was everywhere! It seems like thanks giving is becoming a forgotten holiday like national cake day!

So here is what I did last weekend.
(please don't mind the wrinkle curtains I haven't found the steamer yet)

This is our tree this year, I bought it 3 or 4 years ago on clearance from walmart after christmas.
I no longer shop at walmart just so you know.
But it is pre lit and was only $5 who can pass that up?
The bulbs were from Target last year and the Tulle was from my sisters wedding in 2008

To give it extra height I put it on a drink bucket that I put upside down. It just matched so well!
The tulle is covering the bulbs and ornaments from being skattered by the kitten!
Come to find out the older cats like to eat the tulle, I can't win!

While going through my mothers attic I came across many treasures that I put on the bookcase.
When I come across the rest of my winter decorations they will also go here.
The bulbs and garland are from taget, everything else is vintage circa 1970 from my mother.
My favorite piece is the wooden mobile that spins when candles are lit.
I have yet to find candles to fit however.

I love my new cloche that I bought from hobby lobby!
I found the cake plate over in wedding and the cloche in glass wear.
the other cloche has my grandmother's family bible from 1923.

As you see I filled it with pine cones and extra bulbs.
They fell off the wreath I bought from walmart a few years ago.

From previous posts you can see that I have a huge picture window, I decided to use it to hang cards.
I cut out snowflakes with my new cricut mini!
Happy Birthday to me, My hubby 'bought' it for me!
I love it!

I covered the snowflakes with modpodge and glitter,
maybe wine and crafting wasn't such a great idea that night!
even the cat had glitter on her.
I even glittered a whole package of clothes pins.
What the heck right?

I also hung vintage ornaments that were made by family and friends.

So far we have received one thanksgiving card!

The cat helped re-arrange the items hung. I give up.

I love this little entry way shelf, even though it's blurry you can still see most of the decor.

most of the items were from my mothers attic.
The candle holder with the christmas tree is from Germany!

I also cut this little guy with the cricut and added glitter.
Why not?

This bunting was the first thing I made with my new cricut.
Talk about a breeze!

And lastly Here is the tv area, only the candles are the only things that are vintage.
My mother never burned candles so they still look pretty!
They are both from target in the late 80s. lol
the bronze candle holder matches another one that my grandparents brought back from India in the 60s.

the stockings and holders are from hobby lobby!

Ancestry.com

I have become completely obsessed with Ancestry.com! I spend most my time going back on my family trees as far as I possibly can, For example I traced my Fathers family tree all the way back to 900. That is seriously Bad @**!

I know that many people say that is very expensive but you get what you pay for.
The only downside is that the 50-60s weren't known for their record keeping so its very hard to find someone with just their name.

The other bright side is that once you have created your family tree, ( I have four going currently) you can choose to print or order books, posters and other prints so you can physically have a copy of it in a very professional format! The best part? Mycanvas grabs all the info and puts the project together for you and makes it very easy to add and change things!

I'm so in love and obsessed.
If you need a meaningful gift for someone consider signing up and creating a book for a family member!
In one month you can easily do 4-5 family trees and books.
So really you can do an amazing gift for someone for right around $5 a person.
okay so that doesn't count printing but Staples and office depot often run sales around christmas!!

FREE DOCTOR WHO IPHONE COVERS!

Yes you read that right!
I made some iphone backs for my clear iphone case!
Here is how it is done:
buy yourself a clear case, mine is a two piece and was $1 off amazon, (you get what you pay for.)

then print out the designs I made for you, cut them out and place in phone case.
To cut out the camera hole I trace the hole and cut it out with a craft knife.
I rounded the corners with my punch.

Note, these are for Iphone 4s so what ever that case fits will be right for you!

Here are most of the ones I've made, some are printed off and some are scrapbook paper!
The bottom ones I haven't finished and need to have the camera hole cut and the corners punched.
There are so many options out there!

Are you ready for your own TARDIS phone??
You can find the google documents file here!

Let me know if there are any trouble with the download!

Wood Working DIY Decor

Lately all I have been doing is watching netflix and hanging out in bed.
I'm not lazy, just in pain.
So when I feel alright I craft! I made two different decor projects,
This is my first, I shelf for all my glasses I was given from my grandma

It consists of a unfinished 8"x 70" plank with a piece of square molding glued to the top to secure any sliding glasses. I used three brackets that were $3 a piece.
I first screwed the brackets to the wall, using the window molding as a guide, then I screwed the wood to the brackets! In total I'm sure it only took 20 minutes at tops!

My second project is a ladder to store all my blankets on.
I took two equal boards and dilled holes with a spade drill bit, put the dowels in the holes, glued and drilled them and DONE!!
I spaced the rungs 1 foot apart on the ladder and the rungs are 24" wide.
It stands right over 5ft.
I'm sure it wouldn't have taken that long if my drills were actually charged and if I could have just done it in one easy sweep, BUT NO, I had to run to my dad's house to use his drill press. Then I had to run back home to use my drill to screw in the screws!
Ten easy steps to drive me insane!
But over all the ladder turned out very well!

I also managed to get some sewing in,
I mad these half curtains for the bathroom, I used two remnant pieces and sewed up all the edges to make it pretty!

I also took apart a vanity stool I had saved from my parents house.
I had spray painted it dark brown, Much better than the brass it was.
I re covered the seat with foam, batting and the fabric I had left over from my diy wall art canvas recovering project!

I'm really excited to actually use my vanity now that I have this super comfy and cute stool!

How to reuse wedding flowers.

It's been about two years since my wedding and
I have finally found something to do with all of the flowers!

Here are the arrangements I made for the wedding. Six in total, tons of flowers..

In order to reuse them, I took them out of the foam and all the flowers sorted.

And then I made these two arrangements

First I put a foam block in the center and threw the flowers in it, I had a ton of small Calla lilies left over so they made an awesome addition.
I admit they are a little 'springy' but thats okay, no sense in wasting perfectly good flowers!

Here is the other side of the bucket.

The second thing I made was a wreath!
This is where most the flowers went, it is so massive that it looked odd on my front door!

On this side you can see I didn't actually have enough flowers,
but who looks at it from this side anyway?

How to decorate a hallway!

We have a nice little hallway that joins the house, it goes from two bedrooms and bathroom to the kitchen and living room.
Of course I can't leave it undecorated!
I put my favorite wedding photos on the left.

Then I put a poster print of one of our engagement photos right
over the pointing
"there is the bathroom" hand

On the right side is our family photos from our wedding!

Between the bathroom and second room are all of my favorite engagement photos.
All the frames were free and painted.
they all make my tiny shrine to my hubby.

My favorite part of the hallway is the built in cabinet!

Here is my stash of hair and beauty prooducts.

My hair color  get one drawer cabinet

Make up also gets its own drawer thingie!

Here are the make up drawers,
 all labeled of course!

The hair color is laid out so I can easily see what color I'm grabbing,
the unopened back up tubes are on top.

all lighteners and developers get their own basket.

All Paul Mitchell color gets their own!

All other developers get their own home.

Nail polish is next. all the expensive is on bottom,
the cheap polish for marbeling, nail art and for kid use is in the top pink basket.
OPI was never meant to be wasted!

Air freshners and candles get the bottom rack, I will reorganize this as I come across more of them!

Thanks for stopping by!
