Last minute Father's day gift

My dad doesn't ever want anything for Fathers day.
So technically this is what I gave my sister and mother for Mother's day this year.
But both are fair game!

What I did was print gradiant photos of my nieces,
I then used my lightbox to trace their faces onto watercolor paper!

I'm not a very great artist, I'll be the first to admit this.

However, next year I will be better and the portraits will look MORE like the subject.

It was late the night before Mother's day so I just wanted to get it done.

Yeah the portraits weren't even close.

It's the thought that counts right??

Or if your Dad likes video games or anything specific you can always
do a watercolor inspired by that.

I did a couple for my gallery wall,

It's just a couple things I did to fill up frames but would make a great gift no matter what the occasion, I scanned them and had them made into photos from Target so they were smooth.
I threw them in frames and they are are perfect for my space!

Beauty sample display for guests.

I clean out my beauty sample stash every year, this year it hasn't been as bad.
I hoard them for trips and hospital visits, I hate having a huge case for overnight stays.
Plus I refuse to pay for travel size things.

As a Cosmetologist I receive many samples, most I want to try, some I've never heard of and sometimes I win packages of products.
Sometimes the smells are enough to make me puke,
I am very sensative of scents and need to be careful.

So after a year of lots of traveling and many hospital stays my stash fits in a single shoe box container!

After putting aside the travel size products and containers I refill, I had more than enough for any guests that would be staying with us.

I grabbed a few different glass containers to try them out,

the oval one is an old candle jar, the square is a vase,
and I had a couple extra glass canisters hanging around.

I arranged the products with the packets in the back with the bigger products in front.

My stash that I've been meaning to try now has a cute display on top of the master bath cabinet.

Plus it's handy to keep my deep conditioners in!
and it's decorative, which is a plus!!
I have dried flowers I also want to put in the canister behind it but
I haven't felt much like searching for them.

The rest of the samples I piled into the vase and canister for the guest bath.

I tried to include a wide variety of products for whatever my guests may need.
I also have a whole shoe box full of soaps and body washes I'll have to go through next!

Wedding decorations, cheap and easy.

I decorated for a wedding last year that I was apart of,

I made the centerpieces out of antique coke bottles, filled them with sand to weigh them down, inserted choke cherry branches and dried peonies both from my backyard.
I made paper airplanes to string between the branches out of book pages
(The wedding reception was held in an airplane hangar.)
I also had pink and clear crystals that I hung from the branches!

Most of the center pieces look similar!

I also made burlap bows with ribbon and added paper flowers from the same book pages,
with a cricut! I used the Large flower cartridge.

they can be seen here on the card box,

And the pews,

And on another card box,

I lent them the use of four of my cake stands from  the Wilton brand,
put tulle and a string of white roses on the table!

It gave the tables a beautiful texture!

And of course the chalkboard for the ceremony of course:

I also made all the bridesmaids necklaces and earrings, I even hand embroidered a beautiful necklace for the bride as a gift.

I also gave them a window with their initial and happily ever after on the bottom as another gift.

For pretty cheap I was able to throw most of this together by myself and within a short period of time.
Also I did some hair for the bridesmaids.
Oh and I paid half of the mother of the bride dress because they couldn't afford it.

My biggest mistake is that I did all of this thinking it would be appreciated.

My biggest mistake is doing nice things for people who don't think nice things about me.

You live, you learn!

Trash Tuesday!

I love living in a place where there is a trash day every day of the week,
Especially because we have one car and I need to drop off the boys early in the A.M.
I love driving around looking at what people are throwing out!
here is my curb side finds!
I found this umbrella!
I thought it would have something wrong with it, like a huge tear or something,
nope!

Its perfectly fine! now just to put it in the ground some how....

The next great find is this mirror!
Sure its cracked and doesn't stand but I can use it for something!!

I might paint the mirror and put some fabric or paper over the mirror
and then put up some candles on it!

There are some awesome spindles on that baby!!

This lil bolt held in the whole mirror, it was easy to take apart.

This beauty was hanging out, right next to the trash.

who would throw out such a beauty?!?!?!

oh, thats why!

But thats why they make just the lamp part you can buy!!

after some investigation (IE me plugging the lamp) I found out it worked!
well screw my original plan!!

I just glued it back on!

The clothespins were there to keep it straight while the glue dried.

you can see where the ring was crushed here.

The lamp shade was also pretty ripped up...

so I peeled back the bias tape and put it all back together!

You would have never known!

This trunk is in really bad shape on the outside.
It needs a ton of sand blasting~

At least it has good bones!

Some awesome tags came with it!

This poor stand looks like someone tried to paint it.. And just gave up!

poor thing! it just needs some love!

To be honest it found a loving home in my garage!!
my saws love their new home!
Thanks to who ever threw it out! it works perfectly!!

Free make up storage!

I Have an extremely tidy and organized linen closet.
It looked like this up until I needed the drawer units to organize under my bathroom sink.

Yes, those are all mailing boxes that were free from USPS.com

But once I took out all the contents of the plastic drawers I had a whole bin of make up that I
dumped my makeup into.
That so does not work when you are trying to find lipstick.
Solution?
Pillow case bags. the zippy ones that linens come in!
YEAH THOSE!
They were perfect for sorting the different kinds of make up in the one bin!
Foundation, lip products and eye products were the three categories.
I even had room for old glasses and cases!
So in the one space that I had this bin I can actually find what I'm digging for!
